    LITTLE SIXERS YOUTH CAMP:

    Steve Nash Basketball

Little Sixers targets youth, ages four to eight, and provides resources for educational professionals to assist the teaching of basketball fundamentals. To increase the value of the program for schools, Little Sixers is designed to meet another curriculum need: early mathematics learning. A piece of each grades mathematics curriculum is added to each lesson plan as a means of engaging
students to learn math skills through the joy of basketball and physical activity. Ontario Basketball is working closely with the Ministry of Education's Daily Physical Activity Model, Physical Education Curriculum and Long Term Athlete Development to further enhance the already proven quality of our Educational Programming. Each of the 30 lesson plans will include a warm up, fun activity, basketball fundamental lesson and cool down.

In summary, the goal of the Little Sixers program is to combine mathematics learning and basketball fundamental development in an inclusive, enjoyable and active environment for children four to eight years old.

    ⇒ BASKETBALL:

Six Basketball Fundamentals are to be integrated into the Mathematics Learning. These fundamentals are: Passing, Catching, Ball Handling, Movement, Shooting, and Dribbling.

    ⇒ MATHEMATICS:

Within each level, the Lesson Plans will be categorized based on the five Mathematics Categories outlined in the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum. These categories are: Number Sense and Numeration, Measurement, Spatial Sense and Geometry, Patterning (and algebra), and Data Management and Probability.

    BASKETEERS YOUTH CAMPS:

    Steve Nash Basketball

Basketeers is a game designed to promote the importance of quality physical activity and provide children between the ages of eight to 13 years old with opportunities for positive social interaction in a Fair Play environment. Basketeers' unique format and comprehensive manual provides administrators with the flexibility and ease to implement the game in any setting.

Basketeers consists of an intramural style program that can be run within a time block of thirty minutes to one hour, for as many as ten weeks or as few as one week. The twist: Basketeers uses a modified scoring system called the Equal Participation Scoring System (EPS) to encourage and reward successful team play, along with mandatory equal playing time. In addition, results of each game are recorded in total EPS points as opposed to wins and losses. Through these innovations, Basketeers allows children to have FUN and work TOGETHER.

    Goals of the Basketeers Game:
⇒ To provide a quality grass roots basketball program that is participatory in nature under the age of 14
⇒ To reinforce the importance of having fun while participating in any sport program
⇒ To introduce house league play in a flexible, yet structured environment, teaching the cooperative aspects of Fair Play
⇒ To educate each participant about the important role sport plays in developing essential life skills, and at the same time,     helping to promote positive, healthy lifestyles.

The goal of this exciting program is to allow participants the opportunity to maximize their potential, while promoting the importance of youth basketball as a vehicle to build life skills such as character, discipline, self esteem and sportsmanship. All of which benefit our youth as they continue to play basketball or in life.
